Dear colleagues,

I have updated the ILL/CS
LiveDVD to be used on Intel/AMD based computers. It contains
the following ILL software:

LAMP, nMoldyn, McStas, Matlab
MFit/MView and GRASP,
FullProf, vTAS, ResTrax and SimRes
looktxt, idl2matlab
*NEW* DAVE, SASfit, Mantid, PyMCA ...

as well as many other scientific software related to material
simulations and data analysis.

What's new:

The vTAS/vUFO and vIMPS software are all linked with McStas so
that when you press the R key, the resolution
function is computed and plotted in reciprocal space.

The DVD has been tested on Mac OSX machines (desktop
and laptops), without problems (press C key when
booting).

Fullprof support has been improved.

MPI support (for e.g. McStas) may require you to re-configure
openssh with command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure
openssh-server

The ILL proxy is set by default. Remember to inactivate it if
you go abroad.

This DVD is bootable. It contains a Ubuntu 10.04 system
with pre-installed applications. You may just run it without
touching the current computer hard disk. Login: custom, no
password.
This is very handy for tutorials and system deployments.

You may also install it (with all software) on a 30 Gb+
disk/partition. The Ubuntu system runs on all Intel/AMD machines,
including Apple ones. The CPU needs to support 64bit architecture
(will not run on some netbooks and older machines).

Copies of the DVD are in the DVD-holder in the CS group (ILL4/221).
In case no more DVD is available there, you may burn a copy from:

ftp://ftp.ill.fr/pub/cs/ubuntu_cs

where you will find an ISO (3.7 Gb) and DVD cover documents.

Hope this will be useful, Emmanuel FARHI.
