Hello,

An iPhone developer colleague has written an application which
measures the camera background level and process it to estimate the
radio-activity level around you.

The application has been calibrated at the ILL, using neutron beams,
beta and gamma emitters. It does not access an Internet resource to
extract international detector data bases, but launches a real time
measurement. In practice, to enhance sensitivity, you will need to
mask the iPhone camera with black tape, or a Cd n-gamma converter
for neutron sensitivity.

Most measurements last for about an hour, in order to reach the
'normal' radiation rates (<< uSv/h). It has a fast measurement
mode when you move in a potentially harmful environment, and also
allows to keep track of the measurements worldwide in Google maps.
The App is 6$ on iTunes.
