Dear Thomas,

Thanks for your comments on McStas, they are most useful. I have already
implemented strings and integers as instrument parameters in my current
development version. I can send you a beta if you want, or you can wait
for the next version if you prefer (maybe a few months?).

I am not sure about the problems you mentioned with Beamstop_rectangular
and mcdisplay, do you have an example that you can send me where the
problem appears?

I agree that it would be good to generalize the adaption algorithm for
use in other components, and this is something I plan to do. I consider
the adaptive source a first prototype that will enable us to learn more
about how adaption can be used in practice, I have found it to be
surprisingly complex to get right.

The improved "make" and mcdisplay functionality in mcgui will probably
be implemented at some point it the not too-distant future.
