I was able to run and plot.  It would be nice if there could be a little note about the short cut in the manual ...

Ah right, you need to use the mcstas-2.0-shell shortcut from the desktop. It sets up your environment with the correct McStas path's etc.
But there's still an issue with the gui? Or does it all work now? :-)
