As far as I could see, the problem only occurs when mcgui is run with very long file/pathnames for the instrument. A workaround in some cases was to cd to the folder of the instrument and run mcgui my.instr In addition the bug that has been around for several releases regarding the killing of mcdisplay processes still seems to be live. Pressing cancel either seems to leave the binary running or leaves the dialog box up. Not sure of the cause. OK, thanks for reminding me of that one. A workaround is to not use the ?cancel? button but rather give a ?q? directly in the mcdisplay window (in case you are using PGPLOT) or close the window in case of e.g. MATLAB mcdisplay. Basically, you should copy a CIF, FullProf or ShelX file into the dedicated text area, select the content format accordingly, and press Compute. You will get a ZIP archive for download containing the reflection list and the log of the computation. Data files are not kept on the server. Remember to properly acknowledge when using the software. In principle, the files can be used directly with the components above, as the header is automatically written. However, as usual, I can not fully guaranty that the whole information is validated. Be cautious, and check the file content line by line in the header. The tool is available at . McStas-ly yours, Emmanuel FARHI. The platform was developed with support from NMI3-II (EU-FP7) and features an introductory course in neutron scattering and muon spin spectroscopy. The courses contain a varied selection of interactive learning material using three main technologies 1. A ?WIKIbook? built on Mediawiki with various extensions, e.g. for producing mathematical expressions. It is used as the main source of textbook-material 2. A Learning Management System (LMS) built on Moodle which , provides exercises, quizzes and evaluation 3. A web simulator for the McStas neutron instrument simulation program, allowing users to perform virtual neutron scattering experiments on predefined instruments The platform will be further developed and the learning material expanded in connection with SINE2020 (EU-H2020). To access the e-learning portal, go to https://www.e-neutrons.org, choose ?Get an account? and fill in your personal information. We hope that you will enjoy this new resource and encourage you to try it out!
