Dear Kristian
Thanks very much for opening up use of your
graphics routines.
After deleting a few bits of PDL-2.0 I managed to compile,
link and run on my own SGI. For the server version I have
encountered one or two problems sharing the perl modules across
different directory structures; it is clear the authors have
never tried to mix and match modules in such a way. Unfortunately
the part that breaks is the documentation and help system. I shall
probably re-install perl and PDL etc in the same structure next week
and also try out some of the OpenGL/GLX implementations too. The
problems of not having a 100% binary installable distribution
do require some sensitivity when one tries to identify errors
from warning messages in compiling such a great volume of source code,
especially when some compilers complain more than others. This
I suppose, is why common use of gcc is to be preferred.
I shall be away for the next few days, but then I shall complete
the shared installation with your graphics, and write a
summary web page here. The reactor cycle
started yesterday, so most scientists have less time to spend
on such work. As I suggested, towards the end of the month
we'll have a meeting and review internal activities. Ian and I
are planning to meet next week and we'll let you know how we
see future developments evolving.
I greatly stimulated by your visit, and look forward to a fruitful
collaboration.
Sincerely, Ron
